How accurate are at home drug test kits?

First off, at home drug test kits cannot be used for DOT regulated drug testing and for many State drug free workplace programs. Employers should not use at home drug testing kits without training and consultation from a professional third-party administrator (TPA). Regarding accuracy, at home drug test kits would be accurate for negative results only. For any drug test result that is not negative, the specimen should go to a certified lab for confirmation testing in order to ensure accuracy. False positives can occur on at home drug tests. Any results coming from a laboratory after confirmation testing should be reviewed and verified by a medical review officer (MRO). Do not ever take action on a positive result from an at home self-administered drug test.

Above same above applies for at home drug test kits sold by CVS, Walgreens, and other retail establishments. Beware of purchasing at home self-administered tests from web sites.
