… If you have substance abusers employed in your workplace, they are stealing from your business.  Approximately 9% of full-time workers admit to substance abuse.  Do you have drug free workplace?

The fact is that the cost of substance abuse in the workplace directly affects an organization’s effectiveness, its ability to serve its customers and employees, and the cost of goods and services it produces. These extra costs affect the organization’s competitive position and, ultimately, an employee’s long-term job security as the increased costs translate into higher operating costs and less money left over for employees, i.e., salary increases, employee health and insurance benefits, and retirement accounts. No matter how sympathetic a supervisor or other employees may be, those who are “non-substance” abusers are actually robbed of potential benefits and salary in order to pay for the illicit habits of others. Substance abuse in the workplace is a thief and an organization’s employees and shareholders are the ones who pay the price.

Employed drug abusers cost their employers about twice as much in medical care and workers’ compensation claims as their drug free co-workers. On average that is $7,000.00 to $10,000.00 more per year.

Thirty eight to fifty percent of all Workers’ Compensation claims involve drugs or alcohol.

Substance abusers account for more than 40 percent of all employee theft.
