Hair Follicle Drug Testing Available in all Areas of the United States

Whether you are an employer looking to check up on your applicants and employees or an individual who requires periodic, court-ordered drug testing per the terms of your probation, divorce, child custody agreement or other arrangement, hair testing provides a safe, accurate and more humane way to keep track of drug behavior. Nationwide drug-testing clinics offer hair drug screening throughout the country, and while hair drug testing isn't the only method, it offers an effective alternative to urinalysis.

National Drug Screening provides thousands of locations that offer hair testing using SAMHSA certified labs such as Quest Diagnostics and LabCorp.  There will always be a convenient location near you. If you're uncertain whether or not hair follicle testing is the right option for you or your company, this list highlights the benefits and the drawbacks of this method so that you can make an educated decision about which method matches up with your needs.

  • Longer Rate of Detection

Hair drug testing can detect marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, methamphetamines, ecstasy and PCP for up to 90 days after the drug has been ingested. While there are a variety of factors that determine the duration of time that drugs can be detected in your system, hair drug screening offers the longest detection rate. Urine samples typically only detect drugs for up to seven days, and oral samples detect drugs for approximately 48 hours. Unlike urine and oral samples, with hair follicle drug testing, drugs can only be detected five to 10 days after ingestion, based on the tested individual's rate of hair growth. This is the typical amount of time it takes for the affected follicle's hair to break the surface of the scalp.

  • Convenient

For people who are uncomfortable with the retrieval process of urinalysis or for companies that do not want to invade the privacy of their applicants or employees, hair testing provides a convenient alternative. Unlike urinalysis, which can be humiliating to the people being tested, hair follicle drug screening is quick, convenient and requires no invasion of privacy. Under direct supervision, technicians cut 100 to 120 strands of hair from the crown of the donor's head. The closer to the follicle the technicians can get, the more up-to-date the information is, so technicians cut as close to the scalp as possible.

  • Fewer Opportunities for Tampering

Because of the method of retrieval, there is little room for the people being tested to tamper with the test results in any way. This means that the test results are reliable. Whether you're testing or being tested, you can feel confident that your test results will accurately reflect drug use behavior.
