NDS simplifies drug testing during historic national labor shortage

Unfilled job openings in the United States have reached historic highs at the same time Americans have dropped out of the workforce to a level not seen in 25 years, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

At the end of 2021, employers reported more than 10.9 million job openings while the federal bureau said the country’s labor force participation rate — defined as Americans at least 16 years of age who either are working or looking for a job — dropped to 62.2 percent, a low not recorded since 1977.

The nation’s profound labor shortage is putting new pressures on employers to move especially quickly to hire and to keep their operations running smoothy despite being short-staffed. They need reliable and swift drug-testing procedures that do not slow down hiring or otherwise stand in the way of doing business.

National Drug Screening helps employer companies — both those required to meet U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements and those that are not — replenish their staffs by providing them efficient and immediate drug and alcohol testing and same-day results. Our 10,000 facilities nationwide are open daily to provide employer companies with an immediate, pre-employment drug test, a random drug test or a reasonable suspicion drug test. Employers can order a test online or call 866-843-4545 to speak with a drug testing specialist who can move quickly to set up an appointment at the nearest testing center.

NDS provides the standard 5-Panel Test, 10-Panel Test — and other test configurations based on requirements. Testing can be instant with same-day results, or it can be lab-based with most results returned within two business days after the laboratory receives the specimen.

The Standard 5-Panel Test

The 5-Panel Test meets DOT and other federal testing requirements and is used by many non-regulated companies. It tests for Marijuana/Cannabis (THC), Cocaine (COC), Opiates (OPI), Amphetamines (AMP), and Phencyclidine (PCP).

The Standard 10-Panel Test

The 10-Panel Test also meets federal testing requirements and is used by many non-related companies. It is available in a standard format and in an expanded format that includes wider testing for opiates and amphetamines. The 10-Panel tests for Marijuana/Cannabis (THC), Cocaine (COC), Opiates (OPI), Amphetamines (AMP), Phencyclidine (PCP), Benzodiazepines, Barbituates, Propoxyphene, Methadone and Methaqualone (Quaaludes).
