FAQ- How Long Does Marijuana Stay in Your System?

We get this question often.  There is no exact answer.  It also depends on what you are talking about; urine testing, hair testing, oral fluid testing or blood testing.  It also depends on many other factors including: how much THC has been used over what period of time, how much body fat someone has, exercise patterns, amount of water you drink, diet and other factors.

You will get many different answers to the question, how long does marijuana stay in your system?

Here are some approximate times:

Urine Testing: Anywhere from 1 day to 30 days or more. It will take at least several hours for the THC to show up in your urine.

If you smoke rarely your urine may be clear of metabolites in less than 1 week and if you are a more frequent user, it could be anywhere between 3 and 30 days.  Note that marijuana metabolites are stored in fat tissue so those users who are overweight will probably take longer to clear the drug.

Marijuana – Cannabinoids Detection Time:

· Light smoker or acute dosage; 1-3 Days

· Moderate Use (4 times/week); 3-5 Days

· Heavy Smoker (daily); 10-21+ Days

· Heavy Chronic Use (5+ joints/day); 10-30+ Days

· Oral Ingestion, edibles; 1-5 Days

· Chronic use over period of months or years; 4-6 weeks

Hair Testing: Up to 90 days, broken down by ½ inch of hair detects about 30 days. It will take about 7 days for the THC to show up in the hair.

Oral Fluid Testing: 1 to 48 hours, the THC can show up in the oral fluid in as little as 1 hour.

Blood Testing: 1 – 3 days. The THC can show up in the blood in as little as 1 hour.

Note that none of the above is scientifically accurate, these are estimates.
